Can I learn Electric AND Acoustic guitar?

Of course, you can take your lessons in electric or acoustic, the choice is yours!

Do I need to own a guitar before I start my first lesson?

It is really important to get your hands on a guitar before you start your guitar lessons to give you something to practise on during the week! Check out my page on great local music shops to see where you can pick your first guitar - click here.

How long are your lessons?

Over many years of teaching guitar I've found that an hour works best for all ages that I teach. If you have a special need to do shorter of longer lessons I would be happy to talk to you about it and see what we can arrange, however, provisionally all my lessons are an hour long.

How often should I have lessons?

This depends on how fast you want to progress. I recommend lessons on a weekly basis. In an ideal world beginners would have lessons on a weekly basis. However, weekly lessons can be quite an expense over a time and people who work full time and/or have families can find it hard to find enough time to practice between weekly lessons. For this reason I offer weekly or fortnightly lessons and you should bear in mind these factors before deciding what is right for you. Established players can still benefit from weekly lessons but may also want to consider fortnightly or even occasional lessons. If you me know your availability, we can talk you through the options and my available slots.

When do you teach?

I typically teach all day on Monday to Thursday (10am - 9.30pm) and occasionally on Sunday evenings as well.

Do you teach groups?

All my lessons are for individual students so I am currently not teaching group lessons.

Do I have to read music?

No, not at all. I can teach you to read stave music if the type of playing you want to do would benefit from it, most students who play for fun prefer to be taught through simpler forms of notation, playing and listening exercises.
